[edit] Thanks
Thanks for reverting the vandalism by that idiotic troll, both on my page and others. I was busy editing and didn't notice it. Revoran 07:55, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
N/P man. Atleast Pen showed up to delete all of his works. ;) --Mikeblack 07:56, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] whoa!
Kudos to you for all your new writings! ∞ Sunspots {Talk | Contribs} 23:58, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. I don't have time to look through all the edits tonight, but it looks good. ;) » Bishop · talk « 01:08, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks, guys!
I have to go back and edit further tomorrow to ensure that everything is straight. I'm rather new to the whole wiki thing, but I think I have it figured out. ;)
- That's a lot of new info to go through. While I admire your enthusiasm, and you're definitely doing the right thing, just be careful when you're importing stuff from other wikis or websites to check through the article to make sure the wiki-links work OK. Generally though, thumbs up! ;) -- Pendrako talk 13:35, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
It was my original intent. I kind of got carried away and wasn't able to fix all the broken links that were there. When I realized that I was off-topic with most of the entries and their relevance to WAR, I stepped back & watched what you guys were doing to get a feel. I'm pretty sure I've got it now. Thanks again!--Mikeblack 19:29, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] A couple of things
Hey, just a couple of pointers to make life easier for you (and the rest of us ;) ).
First, when adding a comment on a talk page, you should indent your comment with a colon ( : ). If there's already a couple of comments on the topic, they'll each be progressively indented. Just check out how many colons the last comment used, and use one more than them for yours.
- Like so.
Second, when you use a template, you add it like this: {{ExampleTemplate}}. If I wanted to add the Dwarf God navigation bar to a page, I'd write {{DwarfGodNav}}, like so:
| | |
|---|---|
| Grimnir • Grungni • Valaya |
All the formatting goes in the Template's page, which is automatically inserted into the page by the MediaWiki coding. That way you don't have to go through each individual page to change info in a template, you can just change the template page and every page with the template in it will update as if by magic.
Hope that helps ;) - Pendrako talk 22:01, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info. I'm still learning as I go. So, I could conceivably place {{AbilityBox}} on any page now that it's created and it should work? Like below?
|
|
Will it automatically (when put into the page) format like the BestiaryBox and ask for the information to be input to the specific InfoBox? Sorry for all the additional questions, I want to make sure I have it right. --Mikeblack 22:21, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Some templates can be passed arguments, in the format {{TemplateName|arg1|arg2|arg3}} or {{TemplateName|arg3=something}}. If you want to see what arguments a template can take, navigate to its page on the wiki and hit edit. --Deadpool 07:17, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- I removed the template because it was being weird after I edited it, but you can see it at {{AbilityBox}}. --deadpool (t/c) 13:27, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm. We'll look at it a bit more, then. --Mikeblack 18:10, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- Awesome! Good job, Deadpool. --Mikeblack 18:58, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Wanted Articles
Yeah, I sorta noticed what I was doing. I don't think the issue is that they're relevant to WAR (after all, there's nothing wrong with having information on the lore), it's that we don't need a hundred little stub pages when they aren't relevant to WAR. I noticed it particularly with things like Clan Skryre which I've moved to Skaven and the Old Ones which i've moved into one article. Obviously we can't do this with all pages Magnus the Pious and Aenarion sorta need separate articles, being characters. And some articles need their own article like Sundering, Lustria and Naggaroth. But what about the different Gods, almost every one has it's own article? Surely I could move each into a group, (all the Old World Gods together [minus Sigmar who needs his own article] for instance). But yeah, if I can see a larger page that a smaller one can be incorporated into you're right, i'll merge them, it's something I've been meaning to do. ~ Revoran 02:26, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Red links
I've noticed you're cleaning up some red links. Sometimes, that's a good idea, and I applaud your effort. However, other times, especially in cases where something links to a topic that is certain to warrant an article eventually (because we know or have reason to believe that it is present in WAR), then we should--deliberately--keep the red links around.
Red links encourage participation and remind observers that a bit of information is missing, which may often inspire them to seek it out elsewhere and come back with additions to the wiki. Particularly, once the game launches, red links (WantedPages, really) allows us to quickly identify areas where we have no pre-release information and seek it out in game as fast as possible. » Bishop · talk « 23:48, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, Bishop. The majority of the red links I am removing, though, are things such as "Handgun", or obscure names in Lore articles. I avoided removing Bestiary red links, and even went so far as to add some articles (I just finished the Book of Grudges article, which has a good possibility of being loot - as it's always carried by Thorgrim of the Dwarves.) I understand what you mean, though, Bishop, and I'm being very careful to allow rend links for things that will most likely pop-up in game. --Mikeblack 23:55, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image Categories
I noticed that you uploaded an image recently. I thought I'd notify you that there are image categories for images; see them at Category:Images. If you can't find a suitable category for an image, feel free to create one (and subcategorize it under Images). deadpool (t/c) 07:08, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I had noticed it, but hadn't thought about it when I put the image up. I'll add it now. ;) --Mikeblack 07:14, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Satellite Warhammer Maps
Hey, I noticed those awesome Satellite-type maps from WAR-RvR's atlas - by Fahran. I was wondering if you could get maps for Cathay, Nehekhara, Araby, Dark Lands and Southlands. Not meaning to pressure you or anything, it'd just be cool is all. I'm not even sure how you managed to get them with the atlas being down and all. But yeah - If you could that'd be fantastic :) ~ Revoran 12:08, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- If you read through the thread where they were building the Atlas, you'll find the various maps listed. Unfortunately, Fahran, the map's creator never got back to me on the issue. I sent him an e-mail about the whole situation, saying "Hey, we'd love to use these maps, but we won't if you don't want us to." He said he'd talk to me about it, and then never got back to me. I'd hold off for now, Rev. If you want to attempt to get a hold of him, go ahead. But given that the map project hasn't really been updated in forever, and it's been months since the atlas went down - for maintenance - and never came back up after Elwood's hosting went down (He lost his back up copies of the map, in addition - so it looks like the map needs to be completely rebuilt now. In addition, it seems they want to wait to hear back from Mythic to make the map more interactive with the game world - such as listing what's going on in certain zones on certain servers - and when they do, they'll get back to making it.)
- As far as getting a hold of those guys, apparently they finally fixed their register function on the forum, so I'll register and see what's up. I think you should too, Rev, as I think we need to elevate the profile of HammerWiki in the WAR community. We also might want to bring it up publicly in that thread to say "Hey, we have rules we have to follow, we love the work, can we use it?" --Mikeblack 17:16, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, i'm already a member, I just don't post too much there is all, being more of a Warhammer Alliance junkie - but you're right. I'll look around for that thread about the map. And at the very least we could put some sort of a banner in our signatures which links to Hammerwiki. Apparently Bishop was trying to get into some talks with WHA and War-RvR about mutal linking and partnerships and stuff... but he seems to be a bit busy with real life at the moment, so yeah. ~ Revoran 04:48, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- As for the sig/avatar, I already have it up and running. ;) [1]
- But aside from "official" partnerships, I'm talking about just getting out there in the community and mixing it up with the crowds wearing the HammerWiki logo and link. We'll drive in some traffic (we're already seeing a few new faces come in and edit) and we'll see more than us 6 or so guys editing the wiki. --Mikeblack 21:10, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- Surprisingly - that "Glenn" you spoke to in the map thread on WAR-RvR - was me. It's a small world after all I suppose ;) - I didn't make the connection till I thought of checking the thread while on there today. I love coincidences like that. Nice sig image by the way, links to hammerwiki and all - mind if I steal it for WAR-RvR? ~ Revoran 12:16, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ha! yeah, go ahead. Just host it on your own server. ;) I'm a big poster on a rather high traffic comic board, and me putting photobucket up in too many places jacks up my bandwidth for the month. --Mikeblack 20:46, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Ugh, not really related to Warhammer maps, but you might wanna take a look at this: http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Bishop#WARpedia_fails_epically_at_self-promotion ~ Revoran 10:28, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
