[edit] I promise!
Hi Gem! Good to see you on HammerWiki. I promise I will not use your special icons, that were created for your use by Lord Biro, on this wiki, either! (I note that the save-gem campaign I created a logo for is still going strong on GuildWiki). ;)
Happy to hear you're also a Warhammer fan, we'll need good people to make this wiki take off like GuildWiki did. --Bishop 02:49, 29 June 2007 (CDT)
- Hi and thanks for the welcome Bish. :) It's good to see some familiar faces on this wiki. Mind informing me who the big guys are this time? I'm interested in a sysop position on this wiki too, so...
- What comes to my Warhmmer fanship, I started playing the miniature game years and years ago. I read as much as I could about the Warhammer universe (not any of the novels though) and played the game very actively for years. I also played some of the other Games Workshop games and when I heard about the first plans on this game I immediatel decided that I would try it out once it is released. I haven't played Warhammer or any of the other games for 3 years now due to studying, but I'll get back to it once I can arrange some time. The fig gaming scene in Finland has died away during the time I haven't been playing, so it'll take me some time to get things rolling. (if I can manage to start the scene up again with the help of my old gaming friends ;) ) --

- Haha, if by "big guys" you mean the admins, there's currently just me and Pendrako (and Gravewit of course). Gravewit appointed me bureaucrat way back when I wouldn't stop pestering him to set this wiki up in the first place. I think it was mostly to shut me up. Pendrako I've since appointed partly because I figured I'd need more than just myself to handle admin issues, but more to the point because he did good work on the articles, has a background in the WAR-community and is a level-headed guy.
- I take it they made you an admin over on GuildWiki? I do seem to recall your name was on the list back when, but it's been over a year since I was really active over there, iirc, so it's a bit of a blur.
- As far as adding more admins to HammerWiki, it hasn't seemed all that nessecary as yet, even though there have been a couple of likely candidates. Like the early days of GuildWiki, there's no policy set in stone, and no real precedence other than the direction that GuildWiki took. But that requires a large, active user-base, which HammerWiki does not have (yet). So, for now, I think it comes down to the classic issues of involvement, attitude and ability. I think it's probably time I wrote a few words on the subject somewhere else than just on a talk page. --Bishop 06:01, 30 June 2007 (CDT)
- Yeah, I've been a sysop on both GuildWiki and the official Guild Wars wiki for a good time now and been doing a good job (I guess ^^, no one has complained yet). I wont be involved a lot in content creation anymore as I'm getting used to using my time with policy disvussions, style & formatting discussions, wiki cleanup and the sysop stuff, and that's why I'm looking for a sysop position here as that'll make me a lot more usefull here than I would otherwise be. Ofcourse, it seems to be up to you now, so I'll let you decide what's the best for the wiki. :) --

- Btw, I would suggest taking a look at many of the policies at the official Guild Wars Wiki. I think we did a much better job with the policies there than at GuildWiki since we had GWiki as a 'test wiki' to base our discussions on. --

- Hmm. Reading through the discussion on the Official Guild Wars Wiki shows me some surprising events that I had missed for not being active in the GW community for a while. There was some... controversy sorrounding Skuld? I can't seem to find exactly what happened, just passing references that something occured. I also note that Tanaric, the founding father and bedrock of most policy discussion on any of the wikis was not reelected for bereaucrat there, much to my surprise. (Incidentally, that immediately makes me reluctant to import policies from there.) But perhaps most earth-shaking of all, Stabber returned? Ultimately, I am not all that surprised. And I even think he/she was more of an asset than a liability when viewed in the larger perspective. But oh my, the controversy... hopefully, through effort or blind luck, we'll be able to avoid that sort of thing on HammerWiki. --Bishop 05:22, 1 July 2007 (CDT)
- Stabber returned just like she had promised to do if ANet starts an official wiki. She soon disappeared again, although I can't recall why. Maby because she realised that ANet was going to leave the wiki to the hands of the same people who were creating and maintaining GWiki.
- Skuld was demoted from his sysop position because his actions and behavior were far from those expected from a sysop. Most people blaim his age, although we've seen how mature a young person can be.
- Tanaric wasn't re-elected due to the system that only allowed electing one bureaucrate and we had Dirigible as a #1 favourite. Many people have something against Tanaric due to some of the things he has said or done in the past. Many users don't seem to realise that sometimes a strong leader is needed to do some hard decisions for the best of the community. I don't think you shouldn't look at GWiki policies because they are partially Tanarics handwork. He has done a great job with all of the others who took part in the original GWiki policy discussions. However, I think that we did a far better job at the official wiki as we had more experience to base our decisions on, so it's more natural to take ideas from there. I'm willing to port over those policies as suggestions to this wiki, modifying them a bit to better fit HammerWiki. WE can then discuss each of those policies on the respective talk pages. --

- Welcome to HammerWiki Gem! Although I was never into GuildWiki, having never played Guild Wars, I spent a bit of time browsing through it to
stealborrow ideas for this place, and your name definitely crops up in all the right places. I'd have no problem making you a sysop, maybe not right now, but soon enough. I think we're fast reaching the point where we need to get some decent policies in place here.
- Unfortunately, I'm going through a bit of an inactive spell, which is going to last for another month at least, so I won't be contributing much, but what you've done so far is great and I hope to see more of it in the future. ;) -- Pendrako 11:42, 2 July 2007 (CDT)
- Thanks for the welcome and compliments! I guess inactivity on this wiki isn't an exception. ;P I would want some feedback on the policy proposals ontheir talk pages so that I can continue with some other policy proposals that partially depend on these ones. --

[edit] Executive summary?
Hi Gem :)
When you do major policy edits, it might be a good idea to drop a few lines describing the important changes on the talk page... I can read the diff fine, but with a wall of text, there's always a chance to miss a meaningful change. And besides, it's much easier to discuss single points that way. What do you think? --Bishop 16:34, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was planning on doing that, but ran out of time since I had to leave to visit kalomelis parents. :) I'm back now and will do that. --

[edit] Messing with the Java Script
Hey Gem, I figure since you've been updating your custom .js, maybe you're the one to ask. Or maybe you can tell me who on GuildWiki might know so I can ask there. :)
My question is this: I would like to change the behavior of the signature button in the edit controls to NOT put the dashdash (--) in front of the four tildes (~~~~). I'm almost sure it is possible, but I'm figuring that finding out which file to change and how to do it myself seems like a lot of trouble, so... do you know? Or do you know someone I could ask who's active? --» Bishop · talk « 14:42, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- Poke is our code guru, and he will answer you quickly. If you are in a hurry you can join #gww at irc.gamesurge.net and ask from poke there. --

[edit] Re: Achievement message you left me
I know about the title stuff, I set all those pages up. The individual pursuits don't give any titles. They just give xp when you discover them. There may be some sort of bonus when you finally collect all the pieces of a pursuit, but no idea what it may be.
[edit] Hello again
Good to see you back Gem! I'll be playing on Burlok too with the Sons of Chaos, so if you want to try out a Chaos character you're more than welcome to join us. Otherwise, you might want to take a look at the Warhammer Allied Roleplay initiative, which is trying to co-ordinate some of the more established desruction the guilds on Burlok so that we can get ourselves organized in-game. - Pendrako talk 08:47, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- I just happened to roll out a DE on Burlok. I'll be sure to get active with others soon, but for now I'm reading lore and enjoying the low level play with my gf. :) --
