Damn, you weren't kidding. Keep the edits coming. I dub thee Bureaucrat. Gravewit 18:10, 31 August 2006 (CDT)

Oh, okay. Awesome. I thank you kindly for the vote of confidence, that means a lot. You can bet I'll keep working -- as time permits. Hopefully eventually I'll get some help from other fans. :) --Bishop 18:12, 31 August 2006 (CDT)

Is WAR subscription? — Skuld 06:53, 2 September 2006 (CDT)

Yeah, you can be pretty sure it will be, since it's a Mythic game. Most likely, the box will be a regular retail, and then there'll be a monthly (after a free month) in the $10-$16 range. Prices will be the same or slightly higher in europe, as usual. --Bishop 07:25, 2 September 2006 (CDT)

I'm glad to help, I just noticed theres some info that should be here :)

[edit] Requesting other wikis to merge with you

Bishop,

Since you're dictator of this wiki, consider getting in touch with the administrators of the other WAR wikis and requesting that they move their content here. You can point to the GuildWiki as reason enough for us to be the main focal point here.

While I don't expect all of them to come over, I do expect that some will jump on the offer. If you convince them that they have a better chance of getting their content read (and their mission accomplished) by joining forces with you, the reasonable ones will join.

This is how the GuildWiki started. I had my own Guild Wars Wiki at the time, as did at least one other person who came over to us. We all banded together (read: leeched off) Phil's server for the greater good.

Tanaric 20:14, 3 September 2006 (CDT)

Dictator, love it :D — Skuld 09:17, 4 September 2006 (CDT)
lol, I don't exactly see myself as a dictator, but I suppose your point is valid enough since I'm the only one with even sysop powers for now. I gotta see about adding some, but it's hard to nominate anyone when noone has any history as yet (although GuildWiki history should do fine; but so far only User:Arbegas seems to be updating HammerWiki and while he's definately a good contributor he's only been with us for about a month).
As far as the communication with other wiki's, there's not much out there that compares to what you had before you moved to GuildWiki (yes, some night I was bored I read most of your contribs from way back). Still, your idea has merit and I shall try and reach out if I can. :) --Bishop 10:56, 4 September 2006 (CDT)
(Oh, uh, I figured it was obvious, but I should probably spell it out: if either of you two want to help sysop'ing HammerWiki, you're in.) --Bishop 10:57, 4 September 2006 (CDT)
Meh. Ask again if it's ever released. I'm not much for trolling fansites. :) —Tanaric 20:21, 4 September 2006 (CDT)

[edit] Logo

Hey Bishop, just to give you an update, I've knocked up a logo for the wiki that is fairly decent, but I won't be able to upload it until Sunday evening at the earliest (due to some technical problems I've been experiencing). It's not fantastic or anything, but I thought I'd better give you an update since it's been quite a while now! <LordBiro>/<Talk> 19:13, 8 September 2006 (CDT)

Thanks Biro, I'm looking forward to seeing it. :) --Bishop 01:45, 9 September 2006 (CDT)
Great to see there is a logo coming up. Bishop found me over on Warhammer Alliance and I'm coming over to contribute if you guys need me here. I've written many comprehensive topics, and have a few insider angles as well. I read there was a logo need and I'm pretty suitable for making images. I'll do a logo if you guys would like, I'm an illustrator by day. If need be we can skin the whole site with hand-drawn patterns or images. Give it an elegant, exciting feel. Anything you like, just let me know. --Shapechanger 11:50, 11 September 2006 (CDT)
Ooh ooh ooh, I don't know where to start! All I know is that I think we'll prefer to keep the site on a white background, for readability and whatnot. But there's so many things that could be cool. Since I am totally not an illustrator, I don't hardly know what to ask for, but here's some ideas:
  • Biro already has something in the pipeline for a logo, but I don't think he would mind if you gave it a shot too. It's always nice to have at least a couple of options to choose from.
  • If you have some ideas for skinning the whole thing, or just the front page, a quick sketch (nothing fancy, just thoughts "on paper") or two would be awesome to have something to talk about. Anything that feels warhammer while remaining inviting and readable would own (tough nut, I know).
  • We're definately going to need icons. Icons for all kinds of things. Each race needs an icon, and the unveiled careers need one each. LordBiro has been the main force behind icons on GuildWiki so I'll refer to his work to show what I mean: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/User_talk:LordBiro
  • There's also the option of remaking some of the already revealed ingame icons in a way that is consistent but seperate. I think the best current image is available here: http://war.onlinewelten.com/uploads/gallery/7/pic-401.jpg
But beyond all of the above, I'd love to hear if you have any ideas about what direction to take HammerWiki, graphically speaking. Because that's so not my area of expertise, I'd love to get some good advice. (As you can see, the current look is simply stolen from the gamewikis sister sites.) :) --Bishop 14:23, 11 September 2006 (CDT)
Hey Shapechanger and Bishop :) because of some problems with my computer and the internet in general I haven't been able to spend as much time as I'd like on this, it's very similar to the GuildWiki logo with the square brackets in there. Obviously, if anyone else wants to contribute a logo then that's awesome :) Anyway, here's my logo:

<LordBiro>/<Talk> 11:51, 12 September 2006 (CDT)
Looks real nice, Biro. You do good work as usual. :)
I'm thinking we should put that straight up in the logo spot and then we can always talk options if and when more suggestions are made. I'm, uh, not quite sure how to put it up there though, so I'll need to look into some documentation. It may only be possible for Gravewit to do it, I guess. --Bishop 11:54, 12 September 2006 (CDT)
I'm not sure either Bishop. I agree that we should probably put something there soon, but obviously I have no problems with it being changed at any point :)
I didn't think you would have. I'm trying to find the trick someone mentioned on GuildWiki about how to see all the behind-the-scenes stuff you can edit on the wiki, but of course I forgot to tag it and now I've lost it. And the searching not allowing expressions doesn't help. --Bishop 12:00, 12 September 2006 (CDT)
Is it Special:Allmessages? <LordBiro>/<Talk> 12:09, 12 September 2006 (CDT)
That wasn't what I was looking for (it was some trick about searching the HammerWiki namespace only for something special), but it is a good place to start I figure, so I'll have a look at it. --Bishop 12:11, 12 September 2006 (CDT)

Eureka! I got it. Special pages -> All pages -> Namespace:MediaWiki: http://war.gamewikis.org/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=8 --Bishop 15:35, 12 September 2006 (CDT)

I use Special:Allmessages on GWiki 212.158.245.101 06:14, 13 September 2006 (CDT)

Okay, I'll get cracking this weekend on images. I think we need those first before we need articles from me. Everything I do will be hand-drawn & colored, and then scanned in so it will look a little different than what you typically see. I am still having a hell of a time learning to navigate the wiki pages though. Let's say initial icons for races, classes (as we learn them), zones and any sorts of headers we need or such. Since we have a logo I'll hold off on that unless it just happens. --Shapechanger 18:53, 13 September 2006 (CDT) As well, I think part of the Wiki experience is the experience of cooperation, so it is important it still be very 'wiki', and in that you are certainly correct - it should remain white. Lower bandwidth will help too. That being the case, we should probably think of a main icon, separate icons for each main area, icons for classes races, abilities, spells, etc (mostly just revamped from ingame ones, with more detail and colors to make it easily recognizable ingame - very much like on Guildwiki, and lastly for anything fancy we could hand-draw fonts for headers. I think that will be all of it at first. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head that would fit well with white background and lots of type. It is possible to do a very subtle underlay for the first page that would be present under the text. It could be a cool grey and quite translucent, but enough to see the central image, and of course the outside borders would be visible as well. Or watercolor & gouche 'soft' images which would not interfere with texy. It would fade at the bottom should the page ever become 'long', and it could be made seamless with icons, headers, etc, once the layout is known.

I like your ideas, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. :) --Bishop 16:26, 14 September 2006 (CDT)

[edit] Colors

[1]([2]) This is a post I made on warhammeralliance & my usertalk here asking for input on each races colors. The best way to approach these icons is to use the same method that was employed in Guildwars (with classes) and label a color to each race. This will make all icons easily recongizable at a glance, and then their respective shapes and details will distinguish them further. Im currently working on Dwarfs. Give me your input! Please respond on my usertalk here as well, so I can keep this concise. --Shapechanger 14:32, 18 September 2006 (CDT)

Hahaa, that's funny, I almost made the exact same post on WHA at least twice, but was interrupted both times and forgot about it again. I'll see if I can circumvent my lack of artistic skills and give some input. --Bishop 16:26, 18 September 2006 (CDT)

[edit] Pure Beards (GW)

We disbanded, if you ever come to play nightfall or w/e I'm in a guild with Jamie and Auron. GL ^^ 195.137.4.228 13:43, 3 October 2006 (CDT)

I noticed when I logged on for a bit the other day. Thanks for the heads up, though. I'll look you up when I decide to play Nightfall. :) --Bishop 14:37, 3 October 2006 (CDT)

[edit] Background material

Hey Bishop + crew,

If you need anything adding concerning general Warhammer background, I can offer my services. Feel free to grab what you want from the Wayfarer's guides at Warhammer Alliance. I might have a go at writing a few snippets of description for the world and bestiary sections, just to fill in the placeholder pages you've got at the moment. Trust me, when it comes to Warhammer background, I'm full of it.

Sounds excellent, we can definately use some bette background on a lot of the articles. You might especially want to have a look at the articles in the category Category:Wikipedia Imports, as those already have some content, but it could use polishing and tuning for HammerWiki. And welcome aboard, by the way. With WAR still far off, it's great to see new contributors to the wiki. :) --Bishop 02:37, 19 October 2006 (CDT)

[edit] So...

How's this coming? And how's life? I miss when GuildWiki was this small. :) —Tanaric 06:26, 18 November 2006 (CST)

As you can tell from RecentChanges, it is currently slow going. Partly because new information only comes out in tiny, tiny bits at a time and partly because I don't spend as much time fixing up the things that need it as I could. On the other hand, there's been a small handful of very useful contributors, some of which will hopefully return in the future. And considering how far off launch still is, I think the wiki is shaping up nicely.
I'm still not sure exactly what the magic beans are that turn a wiki from this into GuildWiki. I note that NeverWiki doesn't seem to have it, whateever it is. Whether HammerWiki does or not, remains to be seen.
As for the size thing, I'm thinking there may be a sweet spot somewhere slightly smaller than GuildWiki, but quite a bit larger than HammerWiki. And overall, I imagine that the advantages of size outweigh the disadvantages... in fact, I think that's why wikis work, in the first place. --Bishop 06:38, 18 November 2006 (CST)
Hey Bishop :D I thought I would visit too, the place is shaping up nicely! Did you know the meta wiki was up? I'm not sure how much you keep up with the GuildWiki these days ;) 82.41.32.75 17:25, 21 November 2006 (CST)

[edit] Signatures

Is my signature fine? I know Guildwiki limits images to be 19px in hight, but this one may be different. Thanks again, - Entice789 (Talk | Contributions) 21:43, 14 February 2007 (CST)

I personally don't have a problem with it. But I am loathe to call it a policy decision either way, because I did not closely follow the GuildWiki debate over signature sizes and I think it eventually became a mess over there. For now, just consider the GuildWiki policy a guideline and if you feel strongly there's a need to not adhere to it, that is completely acceptable as long as noone objects. --Bishop 09:06, 15 February 2007 (CST)

[edit] German Warhammer Online Wiki

Moved to HammerWiki talk:Community Portal --Bishop 07:11, 3 April 2007 (CDT)

[edit] Fansite Status

I noticed that Warhammer Online has a fansite listing on their website, but we're not on it. I've emailed them 2 or 3 times, never gotten a response. Wanna do some detective work and see how we can get on there? Gravewit 22:35, 8 June 2007 (CDT)

The bad news is I've emailed them myself at least once as well, with zero reply. From what I can tell, they originally added fansites in a somewhat arbitrary fashion and then once they had enough to fill out the spot in the newsletter sidebar, they simply stopped adding more. This was long ago, around the same time as HammerWiki first lauched, so if they did look at us back then, I can imagine it would have given the impression of "just another one of those 400 wikis". I don't presently know of any way to make them reverse the decision, especially since they appear to have stopped adding any fansites at all, long ago. --Bishop 03:04, 9 June 2007 (CDT)
Maybe someone can start pestering people in the official forums? 66.189.184.113 21:16, 9 June 2007 (CDT)
As best I am aware, there are no official forums and no plans to make them. --Bishop 06:30, 10 June 2007 (CDT)

[edit] How's beta?

I not only assume that you're in it, but also that you've completely explored the entire testing realm by now. :)

Tanaric 16:12, 24 July 2007 (CDT)

Haha, I'm afraid that assumption is slightly flawed. I can honestly say I have not recieved a beta invite (and although I probably couldn't tell you if I had, I could at least have not denied it). As best I can tell, EA Mythic is completely oblivious to the existence of HammerWiki, or at least they choose to ignore it. Slightly disappointing, of course, since I would have loved to have been able to compile information "behind the scenes" for release into the wiki when the NDA is lifted. Hopefully, others are doing so while I cannot. --Bishop 10:54, 25 July 2007 (CDT)

[edit] Image Gallery Error

There seems to be an error with the image gallery. Might it have something to do with people uploading large files? -- Pendrako 12:19, 31 July 2007 (CDT)

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. The Category:HammerWiki Images gallery seems to work okay, what problems are you seeing? --Bishop 16:09, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
Special:Newimages, Special:Uncategorizedimages. I think the proble might be Image:Altdorf_Concept.jpg, as shown at the top of the file list, but I can't figure out a way to delete it or overwrite it without bringing up the same error message that I get when I try to view it. --Pendrako 18:29, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
I deleted the offending image by fiddling with the delete-link of another image. Now that I think about it, I have actually seen that problem before and I thought it was fixed in the wiki software... but since I've worked around it, I'm not going to dig around the issue any more for now. --Bishop 10:10, 1 August 2007 (CDT)
