[edit] Pairing
If you're going to change the pairing from Marauder, please give a reason. There are 4 MDPS classes, two of them with medium armour - the Marauder and White Lion, which are clearly pairs. With the NDA down, it should be obvious now that the squig herder bears little resemblance to the white lion, and is not its pair. Jherad 11:04, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Heh, changed again. *shrugs*. Lets take it from the top, shall we?
White Lion and Marauder:
Both are medium armoured melee DPS. Both get Charge at rank 10. Both get Siege Wrecker at 10. Both get Bypass Defenses at 30. Both get Faultfinder at 40.
White Lion and Squig Herder:
Both have pets.
- Squig herder is paired with shadow warrior due to similar abilites and the pet bonuses of a squiq herder mimic the bonuses of the shadow warrior's stances*
This obsession with the stances/buffs is a complete red herring. All 4 classes (White Lion/Marauder/SH/SW) have permanent toggled buffs that change their focus. Both the Squig herder and Shadow Warrior have similar mastery lines (long range, medium range, melee).
I'm not going to change the article again - it'll just turn into an edit war, but I can't see how someone has come to the conclusion that the white lion is paired with the SH, short of just lifting the (silly) idea wholesale from an old online magazine article. Jherad 10:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- Makes sense to me. I guess it comes down to how you define the "pairing" (which seems a little contrived in any case) - is it based on a career's role, their play style, or their "gimmick"? WLs and SHs are both clearly pet classes, which in one sense makes them obvious mirrors, but it's fair to say that it's not as simple as that. You could ask if every career even needs to be shoehorned into a pairing that doesn't quite fit...?

- While I originally (before the NDA lift) thought that the White Lion was the Squig herder "pair" ... it's become clearer and clearer that the whole pair thing isn't that important anyway, and that if the White Lion is paired with anyone, it probably isn't the Squig Herder. As my original edit to this article was the cause of this problem, i'm gonna go and solve it - at least temporarily - by removing any mention of a pairing at all. We should continue to discuss it, but unless we can all reach a consensus, it shouldn't be changed. I'll add an invisible note to that effect on the page. Does that sound like a good solution? - Heh yeah, I think removing mention of the pairs is probably the best way forward for now - unless Mythic comes out and confirms paired classes, it'll just be down to personal interpretations as mentioned above. The whole pairing concept kind of went to the wall with the removal of several classes anyway, and its much more relevent to think of general roles (mdps/tank/rheal/mheal/rdps) rather than artificial pairs. I might comment on the mirror career article talk page later, but that could go the same way with differing opinion in the face of a lack of official information. Jherad 11:43, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
