Talk:The Old Ones

[edit] Lizardmen gods

Are the Lizardmen gods explicitly stated as being Old Ones anywhere in an official source, or is this just fan speculation? I was under the impression that there was a vague connection, but no-one knows if the gods worshipped by the Lizardmen in the current Warhammer age are the same as the beings who built the warp gates. I think it would be better to give the Lizardmen gods their own article, and any theories behind their true nature should be expressed as such. - Pendrako talk 21:34, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

It's been stated in the lore numerous times that the Lizardmen worship the Old Ones as gods, and that those are there names. But if you want a source i'm at a loss, you could go and look at the Lizardmen page on the Games Workshop website, or you could take a look at the Lizardmen army book for the table-top game, apart from that i can't help you. ~ Revoran 13:54, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I think there's a bit more to it than that. I'm no expert on the Lizardmen, but this bit of text on the GW site grabbed my interest:
This confusing state of affairs leads some scholars to question the nature of Sotek. Is the Serpent God an Old One? If so, why was he not worshipped, or even acknowledged for so many millennia? Some believe that this later addition to the Lizardmen pantheon of gods is something else entirely, perhaps some manifestation of the Lizardmen's anger and resentment at the actions of those that would invade and plunder their realm.
The question is, are the Old Ones gods that exist in the Warp or are they super-beings from outer space? Or is the real nature of them somewhere in between? They might both be right, much like Sigmar, who is both a historical figure and a god who grants blessings and works miracles. We know that the Old Ones were worshipped by the Lizardmen while they were hanging out on the Warhammer world, but they vanished without trace when the polar gates collapsed. Who exactly is directing the Mage-Priests now? But this is all delving pretty deep into Warhammer theology - it might not be needed on this kind of article. I just wanted to point out that in Warhammer, there are rarely simple answers. - Pendrako talk 00:56, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
That's true, it does get very confusing sometimes. And you're right, Sotek in particular wasn't one of the original Old Ones. The Lizardmen are guided by the prophesies of the Slann, who are seen to be divinely inspired by the Old Ones. I suppose we can only say they are Gods in the strictest sense - that they are worshipped by others as divine. But as you said there isn't much practicality in delving this deep into the Lore on HammerWiki. ~ Revoran 01:14, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
