Talk:Realm of Chaos
From HammerWiki
"The Realm of Chaos, sometimes known as the Aethyr or the Warp, is the name given to the area where the physical world and the immaterial plane overlap, bringing form to the swirling miasma of Chaos and allowing raw magical energy to leak into the world. Geographically, it is located at the north pole of the world, around the site of the ancient destroyed Warp Gate built by the Old Ones. Within the Realm of Chaos, the physical laws of reality are turned upside down and the landscape is twisted into nightmarish contortions. It is the place where daemons are created, where the gods of Warhammer are said to dwell, and the origin of the winds of magic which blow across the land in all directions."
I'm not sure this is accurate. The Realm of Chaos is a subsection/subset of the Aethyr/Warp, since the Warp is a psychoreactive plane that contains ALL reflections of consciousness - Order as well as Chaos. Second, the Realm of Chaos is not the same thing as the Chaos Wastes, which the article is describing; the Realm is what's on the other side of the Chaos Portal/ex-Warp Gate. Vikingkingq
- I cropped this straight from the Chaos article, because with all the reorganizing we're doing at the moment I felt that there was enough scope in the wiki for seperate articles. Since I lifted it straight from another article, it lost a little of the context that it originally had, so I was planning on a big re-write here anyway.
- Without wanting to delve too deeply into the metaphysical nature of Warhammer, the Realm of Chaos occupies both a place in the physical geography of the warhammer world, and a place in the immaterial plane. It's a bit like having two buckets, one full of blue water and one of yellow water, with a tube connecting them. Where water leaks through the tube the blue and yellow mix and you end up with green water in both buckets - those green patches are the Realm of Chaos, even though as you say it contains reflections of Order as well as Chaos. That's because Chaos in Warhammer can be ordered, and Order can be very chaotic. Chaos is not chaos, Order is not order. The Realm of Chaos is the same as the Aethyr, which may be the same as the Warp. Am I making sense here?
- I'll definitely re-write the article soon. --Pendrako 18:06, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
