Talk:Order of the Griffon

From HammerWiki

A consensus is needed as to whether this army is called The Empire or just Empire in general on the wiki. Most links currently point to Empire, but I think I feel that most links should point to The Empire instead (although in some sentences that will be awkward, in which case the Empire redirect is fine). Thoughts? --Bishop 14:08, 28 October 2006 (CDT)

Sounds ok to me. 'The Empire' should be used when it stands alone rather than 'Empire', but use the redirect for phrases like 'the glorious Empire'. --Pendrako 17:21, 29 October 2006 (CST)

Oooh, career news. And the one I was hoping for the most, too! Where'd you get this tasty morsel of information? :) --Bishop 18:06, 14 December 2006 (CST)

Eh? Don't you read the forums?

[edit] The Order

I'm not sure about losing the The on the Order. It seems, to me, to be an integral part of the actual name of the faction, meaning the name is The Order of the Griffon, not just Order of the Griffon with the The indicating... something. Just like we probably wouldn't remove the The from The Oathbearers or The Empire, I don't think it should be missing from this article. However, I have little formal schooling in English grammar, so I will defer to anyone who does. --Bishop 11:34, 4 July 2007 (CDT)

The definite article (The) isn't usually needed in an article's title, not in this case, or for that matter in the case of the Oathbearers or the Raven Host. You can look at wikipedia for a few examples of similar situations: the Order of the Garter, the Order of the Dragon.
The Empire is a special case, because the The in this instance is integral to the identity of the Empire - by prominently including the The you distinguish it from all the other empires that exist or have existed before. I'm still not sure if the Empire should always be linked as The Empire though. -- Pendrako 05:22, 5 July 2007 (CDT)
