[edit] Server list

Are these servers actually located where they're listed? The preceding unsigned comment was made by Jinxess (contribs) 12 August, 2008.

From the article, the ones currently listed are just made-up examples. I'll edit the text to make this a bit clearer. - Pendrako talk 19:38, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] European server location

I am pretty sure that the European servers are, in fact, in Dublin, Ireland, in GOA's "Irish HQ". As I've read devs stating, they moved to Ireland due to France's restrictive laws with people working around the clock. Sunspots {Talk | Contribs} 23:46, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

The GOA support team's office is in Dublin, where most of the employees working on WAR will be, but according to IainC the game servers themselves are located in a new datacentre in Lille close to the main european internet backbone. - Pendrako talk 00:01, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh, okay, so I guess we won't get to expect server maintenance people in the server farms after 5PM, I liked the part in closed beta when the servers were down on weekends since no one was there to restart them...Sunspots {Talk | Contribs} 14:20, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Whatever is least beneficial for the players, count on GOA to go with that. ;) » Bishop · talk « 18:26, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The sorting issue

I gave a look at the tables so they'd keep their colors when sorted, however using the wiki standards didn't appear to work too well. The following is how the code should be in order to get different color banding on the rows.

{| class="sortable" ! Place !! Result {{Alternating rows table section|es=background:#f0f0f0; | {{!}} First {{!!}} 100 | {{!}} Second {{!!}} 95 | <!-- empty! --> | {{!}} Third {{!!}} 87 | <!-- empty! --> | {{!}} Fourth {{!!}} 65 | {{!}} Fifth {{!!}} 58 }} |}

More on alternating rows tables [1]

The way the rows are filled in shouldn't be an issue, what matters is the enclosing "{{Alternating rows table section|es=background:#f0f0f0;" and "}}". Using that on wikia however doesn't bring the expected result, instead it states "Template:Alternating rows table section" in red and what was supposed to be within the template doesn't show up. My guess is Wikia doesn't have the template, so no fancy sorting tables possible for now. Psycho dude

Well it's always possible to just shamelessly steal borrow the code for that table and make a new template on HammerWiki (templates are unique to each wiki, not to all of Wikia). While we do have our original content policy, it doesn't really apply to base tables like that. If it were something unique to a wiki or if we were copying the specific implementation of a table on another wiki then it might be a bit silly. As long as this alternating table will still display alternate colour regardless of how it's sorted, that's all we need. Heck we don't even need it stricly, it would just look nice. ~ Revoran | talk 10:25, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I've done away with the alternate colours on the table for the time being, until this issue can be fixed. - Pendrako talk 12:54, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I really think we should make a CSS for the tables, we can look at the WoWwiki's CSS and see what how it works (adding the style properties to each row feels a bit too much)
table.darktable {
background:#202020;
border:1px solid #606060;
font-size:90%;
padding:5px;
}
table.darktable th {
background-color:#113A5E;
padding:0 0.5em;
}
table.darktable caption {
font-size:120%;
font-weight:700;
}
table.darktable tr:not(:first-child) th {
background-color:#112A44;
}

[edit] The spanish servers

The spanish servers, Montañas Negras - Normal (Core), and Vórtice - Open RvR, are not in the list of European servers, I should edit it, but I dont want to ruin the whole article, or do something wrong (Im noob on wikia XDD) The preceding unsigned comment was made by Dr.M.Ginius (contribs) 14 September 2008.

Yeah I think we're missing a lot of the non-english ones. Later when we fix all the tables, i'll make sure someone ads them in with a language descriptor field in the table as well. Or you can add them yourself, either way is good. ~ Revoran | talk 14:34, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
My bad, looks like Pendrako beat me to it. Good stuff. :) ~ Revoran | talk 14:38, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Server Pages

I'm thinking about if we should make separate pages for each server, yay or nay? Sunspots {Talk | Contribs} 18:32, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't know what we would put in such articles to warrant individual pages for each server. I've noticed other game wikis that do, but they usually don't have much information other than guilds. With our guild policy, all we'd be doing is artificially inflating our page count, and in my opinion that's a poor reason to add articles. I imagine putting the information in a table format would be sufficient. -- Heaven's Agent 19:04, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
My feelings mirror those of HA. But if anyone has enough content to warrant separate articles... more power to you. » Bishop · talk « 14:23, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
In regards to having enough content to warrant a separate page, I've been rather surprised to see the success of WarWiki's server pages: server firsts, links to guild pages (no guild pages on their wiki), chat and contact information. After looking at this, I think there's sufficient reason to have individual server pages. Even more so as a draw to players from the individual servers to visit HammerWiki and get involved. What are everyone else's thoughts? -- Heaven's Agent 17:09, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I agree with you on that we should have server pages (The mod Warhammer Census just popped up, which could be useful for putting in information about your server (more ratio-wise and to get the server's guilds), there's also Waralytics for NA servers, so I thought I'd take up this). It is a good way for a player, that is either thinking of joining a server, or are already playing on it to get an overview of balances, imbalances, ratios, guilds, server-forums etc. Sunspots {Talk | Contribs} 17:50, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] I live in NZ but...

So i live in new zealand but i would like to play with my friends who live in europe. Is it bossible for me to play on the euro servers instead of the australian ones?

Well, it is, but not without going through some trouble. You would have to order the game from overseas (Europe) and log on using that version. Also, you'd be likely to get a lot of lag. The version of the game that shipped to Australia/North America/New Zealand will only let you play on NA or Oceanic servers. Sorry :( So to play on European servers, you have to get the European version of the game... You will have to pay postage and possibly customs charges as well to get it shipped to Kiwiland. Also: why not register for an account? It's quick and gives you a few benefits (like no ads, for instance). ~ Revoran | talk 10:54, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the fast reply, that is alot of hassle, i'm not too worried about the lag (i consider playing with friends more important than having a good ping =P)

What would be the fastest way to go about getting a Euro version of the game? Mikeyboy86 11:18, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Well i'm guessing most online retailers wouldn't ship a European version to NZ, however it's worth a try. Other than that, I can direct you to User:Sunspots, User:Bishop and User:Pendrako, all of whom live in Europe and could be able to help you further, or even prove me wrong about being able to play the game - i'm an Aussie myself. I can't help any more than that, my bad. ~ Revoran | talk 11:50, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Try Amazon.com, I got my US version from there, and I live in europe. Shipping was fast (I think like 2 days with UPS) but it cost a penny or two. Hope that helps Zeraktalk 14:11, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Amazon won't ship to NZ, but thanks for the idea. I see that you can download the client from war-europe.com so does anyone know of a place i can order a euro key from?Mikeyboy86 14:23, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] XP bonus?

Should we upgrade the tables with the recently added realm-specific 20%(?) XP bonuses? –Đont*talK 11:01, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't see why not. If you're willing to do the work, it makes sense. ~ Revoran | talk 19:44, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Server Population

The servers (in europe at lest) change population daily so there is no way that we could keep this up to date and I think that we should remove it--leo.sutton@talktalk.net 16:23, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

It's not that they change daily, it's that the in-game display only reflects players currently online at the time someone looks at server selection. It's a valid parameter as it reflects the total population, or at least the population at peak hours. We should probably come up with a better method of updating it, but it's definitely worth keeping. -- Heaven's Agent 17:54, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
It was never meant to be a minute-by-minute thing. More as an idea of how populated the server is (in general) at peak times. If we had specific numbers that updated constantly, (which is impossible, but anyway) that'd be great, but even then it wouldn't serve the same purpose as a general overview. I was trusting to users to make educated guesses based on the usual peak numbers they saw; when they added info to the table. ~ Revoran | talk 21:16, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Well the european numbers are way off, its been a long time since we had any server with population above medium (but recently its getting better) so someone should update them, maybe we could do something like saying that the numbers relate to saturday 8pm or some other reasonably peak time--leo.sutton@talktalk.net 17:31, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Consolidates/Merged Servers

I'm not sure about which are closed other than Oceanic ones which i've removed - anyone who removes the closed servers from the list should add them to the list List of servers/Consolidated servers under the date they were closed - in future with a specific reason if needed. ~ Revoran | talk 21:16, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Removed Karak-izor and Karaz-a-karak from EU list. Otherwise list looks up to date.
Unfortunately English RP server Burlok is facing axe. Currently players in RP servers have free transfer to excisting servers in their language. I haven't seen definite date when its going to be closed permanetly, so I won't add it to the list yet.
As I haven't played from start, is this list the servers GOA had when game launched? If so, names of those servers could be added to list? --Forgetamus 08:35, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
