[edit] Possibility of playing Order and Destruction characters on the same server?
After seeing a video showing the character selection screen, which displayed both order and destruction characters, is there a possibility of being able to play as both sides on the same server? Or was this an administrator thing, or, just showing a selection screen with characters from all the servers the user plays on? --AmrasCalmacil 13:35, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- None of the above. That's beta footage. In beta, you are allowed characters on both sides, as far as I can tell. » Bishop · talk « 13:45, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Naming
In the wiki, it says that you are using a Last name, where is this from? I realise asking questions about it futile, so I won't. --KoalaMeatPie 23:12, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- It was mentioned a while ago. Recently though, I think the official line when asked about whether characters will have last names or not has been "we don't know yet". - Pendrako talk 06:45, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sure whoever asked this question has had it answered, but seeing it sitting here unanswered, I can't help myself. Yes you can have last names, you do not enter them at creation, but rather register them in capital cities with the Name Registrar after level ten. Gazzwidget 15:18, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Change the page
I created a page to replace this page, I was wondering if anyone had any objections or anything? It is my userpage if you would like to see it. Only thing missing are pictures, and I don't want to add those until I have approval from this step. --Propaganda Hour 01:33, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think the one you created on your user page has a lot of useful information, Prop. Nice work. Being as old fashioned as I am, I think I would prefer it to have a little less personality laced into it, though. Perhaps a happy compromise? Gazzwidget 15:20, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Character Creation/creation
The Character Creation article is redirected to 'Character creation.' As well as being incorrect, poorly capitalized article titles make the Wiki look substantially less reliable. I'd like to suggest that the article be moved to the redirect, which can only be done by an administrator, since the redirect has an edit history (someone put their name in it at some point, and it was reverted back). —The preceding unsigned comment was made by Gazzwidget (contribs) 25th November 2008.
- In what way is "Character Creation" more correct than "Character creation"? Does the game refer to Character Creation? In most cases (Though many where I myself have made mistakes, especially when I was newer to the wiki - the link on the main page may be the result of some of my earlier meddling, and certainly the sidebar is) we try to not over-capitalise everything. See here for the relevant guideline.
- Of course we make exceptions when the game capitalises something, but even then (me not having bought the game) does the game's Character Creation fulfil the same purpose as our article on it (Character Creation isn't a proper noun or even a core gameplay element). However i'd be happy to do it if we can reach a consensus or you can show me that i'm wrong. By the way, i've seen some of your contributions so far, good job :) ~ Revoran | talk 02:33, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- On second thought, this discussion might be better off on the Talk:Character Creation. Moving there. ~ Revoran | talk 02:33, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- It is a generally accepted rule in both American and British English writing, that in a document title one capitalizes all principal words (nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs), and the first word in such titles. As articles in the Wiki are documents, this would seem to apply. I can if you like cite half a dozen writing manuals, or point to the capitalization of article titles in major publications written in English. Certainly you are correct in saying that it can be done either way, as with any original writing, which our articles must be, capitalization is up to the author's discretion. The work of 'ee cummings' is an excellent example of such creative abuse of language. I simply believe it looks more professional to capitalize headings and titles. What do the rest of you think? Gazzwidget 05:27, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- This may be the case in traditional writings, but Wiki format is the opposite; because wikicode is case sensitive, unless there is sufficient reason for an article name to be capitalized it is generally accepted that they should always be lower-case. Here it was decided that if something was capitalized in the game, we would capitalize it within the project, but otherwise we would uphold this convention. I still feel this was the correct decision to make. -- Heaven's Agent 06:35, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hmmm. I admit I was ignorant that this was a general concensus in the Wiki community, and do see now that other Wikis appear to do things similarly. I still do not understand how the code being case sensitive means that something's case should be entered incorrectly, as I would think people would still search for the correct capitalization, and know that redirects can be made. Nevetheless, if this is a Wiki specific practice, I am certainly not going to suggest that we break with convention. Thank you for enlightening me. Gazzwidget 15:10, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
