Saphery is the third tier zone for the army of the Shining Guard. In Warhammer lore, Saphery is the location of the White Tower of Hoeth, the traditional home of the Swordmasters.

OverviewEdit

Saphery is one of the Inner Kingdoms of Ulthuan, the home of the High Elves, and the most mysterious and enchanting land in Ulthuan. A region of rolling green hills, trickling little streams and tall pine groves, backed by the purple-tinted Anullii Mountains in the distance. Saphery is an enchanted land, and even the trees and flowers seem to have an ethereal quality about them, as if the hands of the Elven Gods were at work in the very landscape itself. Being a land heavily laden with magic, it serves as the training ground for all the mages and Archmages of Ulthuan, and the Swordmasters of Hoeth who defend them. The best of the High Elf mages, including prominent figures such as Teclis, have all trained in Saphery.

Saphery is home to the White Tower, a huge structure of gleaming marble stone which towers into the clouds and is the repository of all the arcane knowledge of the High Elves. Bel-Korhandis was the Pheonix King who oversaw the construction of the tower and was from Saphery himself. Also in Saphery is a second tower, the tower of flames, it is here that those mages of Ulthuan who show an affinity with Aqshy, the same magic used by the Bright Wizards of the Empire, train their skills to become Dragon Mages, known for their hot-headedness.

The Swordmasters of Hoeth are native to Saphery and are Ulthuan's most talented martial artists, they train for centuries to refine their skills to a point unreachable by most humans, and use these to defend Ulthuan and the mages and scholars of Saphery valiantly.

Saphery in the Age of ReckoningEdit

Saphery is a natural target for Malekith's Dark Elves in his war on Ulthuan. If the Dark Elves could gain control of even a small fraction of the magic contained in Saphery, it could well spell doom for the High Elves.

The Dark Elves march into Saphery from neighbouring Avelorn and intend to take the White Tower, the Tower of Flame and the Ithilmar Tower, if these are taken, the magical knowlege and arcane artefacts of the High Elves will be theirs. Also, several powerful Archmages make their homes in Saphery also, in Whitemoon Manor and Thanon Hall the inhabitants are under constant assault from Dark Elves seeking to earn the Witch King's favour by killing them.

The Circle of Winds, a magical circle of Standing Stones which is at the heart of all the magic in Saphery, has drawn the attentions of the Dreadblight Covenant, House Uthorin's Sorceresses.

The High Elf defence is stretched thin between this large amount of targets, and it will be all they can do to stem the tide of Dark Elves and their brutal assault which has now struck into the Inner Kingdoms and the very heart of High Elf magic in Ulthuan. However House Uthorin and House Arkaneth have been escalating the tensions between them as each seeks to claim the White Tower - and the Witch King's favour first. Time will only tell if this uneasy alliance will hold long enough to defeat the High Elf defence.

It is undeniable that darkness has come to Saphery, and that the fate of Ulthuan's magical heartland hangs in the balance.
