Salvaging
From HammerWiki
Salvaging is the gathering skill to remove the fragments, dusts and essences from magical items. Destroyed equipment and green and better items can be salvaged. Destroyed equipment and weapons will remove the essences and dusts they once contained while salvaging uncommon (green) or better items you can choose to extract the equivelant stat fragment from them. Salvaging is mainly used to back the Talisman Making skill
[edit] How to Salvage
Find your salvaging ability in your list and click on it (you can add it to an action bar if you want) it will then turn into a gold hammer, click on your chosen green and above item. Either it will immediately salvage it or a multiple choice box will appear, the multiple choice box will contain what fragements can be got from salvaging it. The fragments will be a reflection of what stats it contained. only 1 fragment can be obtained from an object. Once salvaged it will be gone forever.
Certain items cannot be salvaged. These are mainly items you can purchase from vendors to prevent easy farming of skill with cheap renowm vendor items. Influence items and quest rewards can be salvaged. You cannot salvage an item that is bound to another player.

[edit] Quality
Think a higher quality item can provide a higher quality fragment, dust, essences seem to be fixed at green and blue respectively. Higher quality fragment will have a big determination on the quality of the talisman.
(Needs cleaning up just a thin outline of the skill)
