Order of the Griffon

In WAR, characters from the Empire are members of an Imperial military force known as the Order of the Griffon. As part of the Alliance of Order, the army of the Empire is pitted against the destructive forces of the Raven Host. The leader of the Empire is Emperor Karl Franz.

The Order of the Griffon is a military force made up of highly skilled soldiers, Wizards and devotees of Sigmar's cult who are charged with facing the gravest threats from inside and outside of the Empire. This new force in the lands of the Empire was created by Emperor Karl Franz with the aid of the Grand Theogonist of the Cult of Sigmar, the Supreme Patriarch of the Colleges of Magic, and the Grand Master of the Reiksguard. The Order of the Griffon is designed to be an integral part of the Imperial army. It is an elite military force answerable only to the Emperor himself, with an authority that supersedes that of the Elector Counts and their provincial generals. Freed from these bureaucratic constraints, the Order is able to move swiftly to coordinate the defence of the northern provinces of the Empire against the Chaos incursion.

The members of the Order come from a range of backgrounds. They are loyal citizens of the Empire who are ready and willing to fight face to face with the murderous Northmen of the Raven Host, while at the same time providing leadership to Imperial troops and carrying out important missions away from the immediate battlefront. By pulling the front line forces of the Empire into some semblance of unity in the face of an overwhelming invasion, by carrying out dangerous missions away from the immediate battlefront, and by focusing their strength against Chaos where it counts, they hope to achieve their ultimate goal of driving the invading forces back to the Northern Wastes.
