"The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land..."
The Ironbreaker is the primary dwarven tank, the most heavily armored single presence on the battlefield. His only rivals for sheer toughness are the Black Orc. The Ironbreaker is paired with the Dark Elf Black Guard.
Career Overview Edit
Being a primary tank, the Ironbreaker's task on the battlefield is to stand his ground and soak up damage through his heavy armor. He wields an array of dwarven weapons, but his primary task remains that of defense and tactical control.
The Ironbreaker also receives abilities that enable him to protect his allies in a more direct fashion, such as reducing damage dealt to them by using the Guard ability or literally stepping in front to block blows intended for an ally. The Ironbreaker is a welcome addition to any group.
Unfortunately, the Ironbreaker lacks any kind of useful ranged damage ability except Axe Toss. As such, he must close to melee range to prove any kind of threat against foes.
The career mechanic of the Ironbreaker is Grudge. An Ironbreaker can have 0 to 100 Grudges and will gain 5 Grudges when hit and 10 Grudges when his Oath Friend is hit. Some abilities of the Ironbreaker take advantage of this by either building Grudge when used, become more powerful with more Grudges, or spend Grudges instead of Action Points to use. This mechanic is very similar to the Black Guard's Hatred, but with one significant difference. The Black Guard may gain Hatred through attacking, while the Ironbreaker makes use of an Oath Friend.
Armor and Weapons Edit
- For Ironbreaker armor sets see: Ironbreaker/Armor Sets
The Ironbreaker uses very heavy armor and weapons.
For weapons, an Ironbreaker can use either a one-handed weapon and shield, or a Great Weapon. A one-handed weapon with a shield will allow the Ironbreaker to absorb more damage, and give him the ability to block, while sacrificing some of the damage a Great Weapon would provide. Ironbreakers are limited to using only axes or hammers as either one-handed weapons or Great Weapons.
Path of Vengeance Edit
This path is focused on the use of offensive abilities with a Great Weapon.
"Some Ironbreakers hold their grudges close to their heart, slowly nurturing them until they are filled with the fury of Grimnir himself. With a single minded focus, a specialist in this path becomes more and more dangerous with every grudge he holds, pushing himself to fight more brutally as he strives to avenge the insults that have been dealt."
Path of Stone Edit
This path is focused on defense and protection.
"As stubborn and unyielding as the mountains themselves, Ironbreakers who master this path are specialists in defence and will expend every last ounce of energy protecting their sworn oath friends. Since an Ironbreaker builds up Grudges quickly when under direct attack, this mastery takes advantage of that by consuming his grudges to fuel potent defensive abilities."
Path of Brotherhood Edit
This path is focused on supporting and bolstering oneself and one's allies.
"A specialist in this path understands the balance between camaraderie and retribution, and is a natural leader on the battleground. Alternately holding and discharging his grudges, the master of Brotherhood serves as a shining example of the greatest Dwarf traits, inspiring his allies to push onwards to greater heights. Equally adept at breaking the enemy line or standing his ground and holding back waves of foes, the master of this path has the ability to bolster his Oath Friend as well as himself."
