The Fay Enchantress is the personal representative of the Lady of the Lake, the goddess of Bretonnian folklore. As such, she has more authority in Bretonnia, and especially over the Grail Knights who have vowed loyalty to the Lady, than the King or the dukes. She can call armies together and announce a war, sometimes even join the fray herself with her divine powers. When a king dies without a clear heir, it is the Fay Enchantress who instates a replacement. She can even expel unworthy kings.
Her identity is unknown, some claims she is always the same immortal being, other say that upon dying, a reincarnation stands up and yet others claim that when she dies, someone else is chosen to succeed her. Whatever may be true, she comes and goes as she pleases, appearing at courts in times of trouble or to Questing Knights to guide them.
The Fay Enchantress also takes children with some latent powers. Some of the female children return as Damsels, but many more as well as all the masculine, are never seen again.
