Damage over Time, or DoT, is a term commonly used to describe abilities which distribute damage to their target over a set period time, rather than all at once. The total damage is divided into ticks and delivered at set intervals spanning the duration, which can be fairly constant, or have significant pauses between ticks.
In Warhammer Online, every career has at least one ability which will deliver part or all of its damage in this manner, though it is typically ranged spellcasters who specialize in it most. Damage over Time abilities are particularly useful for their ability to continue to damage a retreating foe, offset the enemy healer's HoT efforts, increase the amount of damage you can deliver while moving about the battlefield or using other abilities, and spread out the amount of Hatred you generate against a monster by delivering it spread out, rather than all at once.
