Bhagar, called the "Eternal Necropolis," is one of the ancient city-states of Nehekhara now ruled by the Undead Tomb Kings. located in the southern Land of the Dead.

History[]

In ancient times, the people of Bhagar were part of the nomadic desert tribes of the Great Desert who are the ancestors of the present-day Arabyans. Originally bandits that preyed on Nehekharan caravans, they were conquered by the priest-king Settra, then civilised by their conquerors and incorporated into the Great Land of Nehekhara.[1a]

Location of Bhagar in the Land of the Dead

The people of Bhagar were horsemen first and foremost, with cavalry being a vital part of their military forces. The lands ruled by the priest-kings of Bhagar became known for the quality and quantity of their horsemen, as well as the prowess of their charioteers. Bhagar became rich and prosperous through trade, since it held the only real roadway leading to the lands far to the south, along the Gulf of Medes, connecting the northern and southern dominions of Nehekhara. Much of this wealth is still evident in the city's elaborate temples and mausoleums.[1a][14a] Their patron god was Khsar, the faceless god of the desert winds.[1a]

When Bhagar resisted the rule of the Great Necromancer Nagash from Khemri, the necromancer's lieutenant Arkhan the Black led a punitive expedition that enslaved most of the Bhagarites, killed nearly all of their prized horse herds and caused hundreds of refugees to seek shelter in the other cities, spreading word of Nagash's crimes.

From 120 to 170 IC, King Setep of Bhagar conducted large raids into the Border Princes and reclaimed much lost territory.[3a]

Notable Bhagarites[]

  • Setep - Setep was the sole ruler of the Fifth Dynasty of the city-state of Khemri that also ruled over the rest of ancient Nehekhara.
