The sun had barely risen, and cold mists shrouded the valley when the attack began with a sudden flurry of exchanged blows. Elothain gave the order to pursue the enemy, and his warriors vanished northwards into the morning haze. They have not yet returned, and I pray they still pursue their quarry. There can be no other reason for their long delay.

The campfire has been abandoned for some hours, with only faint vestigial warmth remaining. Judging by the signs, whoever put out the fire did so with great haste and without any thought of secrecy.
